Mike Spielman, a well known math teacher at Baldwin High School, has been selected the Teacher of the Month for September by the Student Advisory Team. Spielman is often recognized for his great coaching abilities, but the Teacher of the Month award highlights his instruction skills in the classroom.
“He is the best math teacher I’ve ever had,” senior Marlena Arjo said. “I like how he makes math easy to understand.”
Spielman, an essential BHS staff member, answered a few questions about his selection for Teacher of the Month and shared some wisdom for current students.
Why did you pursue the teaching profession?
“When I was in high school, I had a teacher that I really connected with and I wanted to try and do the same for others.”
What made you choose math over other subjects?
“I really enjoyed math in school and like most, if you are good at something, that is what you enjoy doing.”
How long have you been teaching at BHS?
“This is my 24th year at BHS.”
What is your favorite part about teaching?
“Seeing students try and grow each day. They are always learning something each day and I just like being a part of it.”
If you could give your students one piece of advice, what would it be?
“Get better at something every day. No matter how small the feat is, it will make you a better person in the long run.”
