BHS art instructor Christy Carlisle was nominated as the Staff Member of the Month for November. She was chosen for her dedication for bettering student’s minds, creatively or intellectually.
“She helps all students whether they are artistically inclined or not, and gets involved with other groups,” Art Club Vice President Dani Houser said.
One-on-One interview with Carlisle:
How do you feel about being chosen as the teacher of the month?
- What a great honor.
Did you expect it?
- I didn’t expect this at all. Totally caught me off guard.
How does that make you feel about the students and how they view you as a teacher?
- It’s really cool. I feel there should be a connection between students and teacher. I feel honored to be part of that connection.
Why do you think you were voted as the teacher of the month?
- That is a tough one because I know I’m not the easiest teacher in the world, but I try to be fair and work with students, not just talk to them. I enjoy watching creativity and problem solving light bulbs glow bright over students’ heads every day. I will say it’s easier here at Baldwin. We have great kids.
Why did you become a teacher?
- I always said I would teach when I got old, so here I am. No really, I think that being creative is an asset worth knowing no matter what your occupation. And in turn, what better way to spread the word than to teach.
What do you hope to do as a teacher?
- Inspire, help students see themselves as I see them. Powerful, creative individuals, able to be what ever they set their minds to, artfully!
What are some of your life philosophies?
- Create every day, Live hard, work hard, play hard or go home. LOL
