Power Lunch undergoes slight changes
There are many changes that have come to Baldwin High School in recent years. One of the biggest changes is the addition of Power Lunch. Many students have strong opinions about the addition, some good and some far-from-good.
Power Lunch starts at 11:27 a.m. and, depending on their grade, students make their way to the lunchroom. The Power Lunch block is split into two 25-minute blocks. Every day the lunch schedule changes, either freshmen and sophomores go first, or juniors and seniors go first.
“Everyone is always confused what day they have first lunch.” sophomore Megan Thomas said about the changing schedule. “Especially on Mondays, because no one remembers what period they had on Friday.”
While it can be confusing, it is easy to look at the people in the lunchroom and tell if your group is eating. You can also ask a teacher or classmate.
Even though the students switch lunch blocks every day, the teachers all have set office hours.
“I don’t really like Power Lunch because I’m not able to visit certain teachers on certain days to get help,” freshman Izzy Harvey said. “I have to skip my lunch if I want to get help.”
The different schedules are inconvenient, but if you really need help you can go during your lunch and wait until the next block to get your lunch. If the teacher allows food in their class you can always eat while you get help.
“I liked lunch a lot more last year because we could choose where we ate,” sophomore Tennyson Wilson said, last year the students had the full 45 minutes to eat wherever they want and to visit teachers. “It’s hard to sit with our friends that are in higher grades. And the lunch room is way too small.”
Students are supposed to eat in the lunchroom during their block, but many teachers allow students to sit and eat in their classroom the entire lunch block. You just have to find the right teacher.
Power Lunch can be an inconvenience to some people, but any type of lunch would have its downfalls. At the end of the day Power Lunch is what we have, and, as the saying goes, “you get what you get, and you don’t throw a fit”.
