MTV cancels Jersey Shore
No more GTL? No more Guidos? No more Jersey Shore?
After five successful seasons of Jersey Shore, MTV has decided to cancel the show. There has been much speculation about the reasons for cancelling the show, however the main one is that the cast members are now too old and entered new phases of their lives. A prime example of that is cast member Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi and her pregnancy. Snooki recently gave birth to a baby boy.
Some students were loyal fans to the show Jersey Shore.
“I’m gonna cry now that it’s been cancelled,” junior Joe Chapman said.
Some students weren’t so loyal to the show.
“I think Jersey Shore reflects poorly on us because it shows how stupid some of our people are,” senior Chessica Evans said.
Despite the fact that Snooki was pregnant all during the filming of season six, MTV decided to go ahead and air the final season. Jersey Shore has been a big hit for MTV and they would like to end Jersey Shore on a good note for the fans. MTV has also said they want to update the channel with newer content, meaning new series’ or shows. Hooking fans on something new is difficult when they are so dedicated to a current show.
“It really stinks they are ending the show,” junior Morgan Lober said. “My life is over.”
But don’t worry Jersey Shore fans! The show already has two spin-offs, Snooki & JWoWW and The Pauly D Project. Snooki & JWoWW has just been confirmed for a second season, part of which will be the birth of Snooki’s son.
“It’s really sad that it’s ending because that show is hilarious,” junior Hailey Cope said. “Snooki is the best.”
As of right now, MTV says they are not recasting Jersey Shore. They think the entire cast has been one of a kind. MTV is showing a farewell special after the MTV Video Music Awards called, “Gym, Tan, Look Back” at 5 p.m. on Sep. 6, right before the awards.
The final season of Jersey Shore is planned to air on Oct. 4 on MTV.
